Familiar and warm – from 1640 to today

From a bakery to a boutique hotel, a miraculous escape from a major fire, a very special friend of the hotel, and a little sunshine – curious to learn about our story? We’ll share it with you!

Holiday in South Tyrol – a design hotel by the Wine Road

A hotel is created and a love story begins

  • 1640: Farmhouse and bakery – a hardworking beginning. The traditional art of baking was passed down through the centuries and across generations, right up to the father of your host, Marion Pristinger.
  • 1895: A major fire rages in the Vicolo dell’Oro/Goldgasse in Nals. Miraculously, our house is spared. Great-great-aunt Stina Pristinger erects a small chapel in gratitude.

The first place for a summer holiday in Nals

  • 1956/57: The stable and barn make way for the first guest rooms. Pioneer, trailblazer, and free spirit Annemarie Pristinger is the first to offer guest rooms in Nals. Writers, mountaineers, directors and, last but not least, the actor and good friend of the hotel Luis Trenker, who films two movies around Nals, all become part of the guesthouse’s lively story.
  • 1958: Hollywood flair in Nals – scenes from the film “Heimatlos” with Freddy Quinn are filmed in the guesthouse.
  • 1960: After 320 years, the bakery is moved out of the building and housed next door.
  • 1983: Ilse (master pâtissier) and Herbert Pristinger (master baker) take over the management of the guesthouse.

Luis Trenker is the namesake of our hotel lounge and a suite. Thank you for your friendship, Luis!

From guesthouse to boutique hotel

  • 1995: 100 years after the fire, the chapel is restored. A relative of the host family, Father Roman Morandell, prior in Maria Plain near Salzburg, designs the mosaic painting, which you can still admire in its full splendour in the chapel today.
  • 2002: Marion Pristinger follows in her parents’ footsteps. With sensitivity and loving attention to detail, she continues to lead her passion project to this day.
  • 2004: The wedding bells are ringing! Marion Pristinger marries the love of her life, the South Tyrolean architect Alberto Micheletti. Meanwhile, little sunshine Theo makes the family bliss complete.

In the years that follow, the family put heart and soul into the renovation and expansion of Zum Rosenbaum. What began as a two-star guesthouse is transformed into a four-star boutique hotel. The result is an exciting mix of yesterday and tomorrow, a harmonious combination of tradition, charm, and exclusivity.

  • 2019: Over 70 years of Zum Rosenbaum – we celebrate our passion project and open our new Restaurant Lorenz.
