Guided hike with Alberto, the proprietor, through the apple blossom
Fantastic circular hike from our hotel up to Schwanburg and Payersberg Castles
Duration: 2 hrs / Distance: 6 km / Difference in elevation: 400 metres
We start at 9.30 am in the hotel reception and begin our spring hike in Nachtigallenweg, which starts right next to the bakery.
This path is a little steep and, after numerous bends, we will experience a wonderful view of the entire Burggrafenamt region towards Bolzano as far as Merano.
Afterwards we continue past Payersberg Castle and right through the apple trees, which are in full bloom.
Heading towards Nals village we next pass Schwanburg Castle before returning to the hotel.
The Schwanburg is still occupied today and is an extremely well preserved castle from the Renaissance period. The complex was mentioned in the 13th century in various writings as the “House in the Gaul”. Only in the 14th century was the Schwanburg modified. Between 1560 and 1575, Jakob von Boymundt-Payersberg gave the building its present attractive form and named it after the swan contained in the family coat of arms. Incidentally, the swan also appears in the coat of arms of the village of Nals. The Schwanburg castle complex is very attractive and a feast for the eyes of visitors. In the old castle cellar there are still many small French oak barrels and other wooden barrels from the time of Maria Theresa.
